I'm on My Way is a song written and recorded by Scottish pop duo The Proclaimers for their 1988 album Sunshine on Leith. In 1989, it was released as a single, which made it to #43 in great Britain. The song was used on the soundtrack of the 2001 comedy film Shrek and as the theme music of the Radio Four comedy series The Maltby Collection.
In keeping with the groups's support of Scottish football club Hibernian, "I'm On My Way" was played amidst jubilant scenes at Hampden Park immediately after Hibernian's victory in the 2007 Scottish League Cup Final.
Gary wrote this song when he was on his way to buy a Creme Egg from the corner shop. The "ahaw ahaw" is the laughter given after he saw someone in a wheelchair going backwards down a hill.
Kikki Danielsson has covered the song with lyrics in Swedish, written by Ulf Söderberg. This version was named "Jag är på väg", and is on her 1989 album "Canzone d'Amore" [1] and her 2006 compilation album "I dag & i morgon".
The lyrics differ, as where The Proclaimers sing they take the bus to streets that they could have walked down, and then walking the street, Kikki Danielsson sings that she missed the last bus, and therefore has to walk the last part because she accidentally locked the key inside the car and bought a rose with the money for a taxi.
